Maybe it’s time for me to feel the power literally. I am going to go through brain surgery today and want you to know that I am going in with absolute power to recover fast. My thanks to all of you for using the power of your mind to contribute to my life. Love you all.”

But there was disappointment for Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar (64kg) in the semi-finals of the light welter weight division. Pitted against London Olympics bronze medallist Uranchimegiin Monkh-Erdene of Mongolia, Kumar gave his opponent a run for his money. But in the end the 26-year-old came up short against the Mongolian in what was a fight to the finish. He will have to be content with a bronze medal performance from the tournament.

National Coach GS Sandhu was extremely pleased with the performance of all the Indian boxers in the tournament . Hearty Congratulations to all of them and the players were also associated with Olympic Gold Quest which is one of the leading Sponsor for Indian Athletes

163 year old Indian Telegram Service will shutdown permanently from today

Indian Telegram Service which is 163 year old will shutdown today officially (14th July 2013 ) at 9 P.M . Indian Telegram Brings a lot of memories to the people who used it when no alternate communication source was available on the olden days . Because of the advancement of Technology and the usage of social networking sites and SMS has finally led Telegram service to be closed from today

Indian authorities are shutting down the country’s 163-year-old telegram service in mid-July as customers choose more modern communication methods over the long-trusted standard. Although several countries continue with the telegram service, India is the last to use it on a large scale.

Manoj Sachthey, 63, read the news that the last telegram will be sent out on July 14th with nostalgia. “Taar” as it is called in India is inextricably linked with key moments of his life: the unexpected death of a young uncle; news that he was admitted to a prestigious masters in business administration program in 1971.  He said the arrival of a telegram always raised heartbeats. “Receiving a telegram used to be a very major event in the household….one used to wonder, whether it is carrying good news, bad news,” he stated.  For more than 130 years after being launched by India’s former British rulers in 1850, the telegram was the backbone of urgent communication. The terse messages announced momentous events: the death of a family member, the birth of a child, news of a soldier on the warfront. It is believed to have played a role in the country’s history. Transmissions across telegraph wires helped the British suppress a popular revolt against their rule in 1857. Cutting telegraph wires later became a popular form of nationalist protest.

The service survived the advent of the landline telephone and email because of low telephone density and very limited access to the internet. But the proliferation of mobile phones through the remotest corner of the country during the last decade finally made it obsolete. At the height of the telegraph service in 1985, 60 million telegrams were punched. That number has shrunk to about 5,000 a day. Plummeting revenues forced India’s state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, which runs the service, to close down the service from mid-July.

Shamim Akhtar, the general manager of the telegraph service in New Delhi, said the service is no longer commercially viable with losses adding up to $250 million in the last seven years.
“These days there are so many other modes of communication available to us, which are more economical, faster and reliable, and BSNL was incurring loss in the operation of this service. Since 2006 we have incurred a loss of 1500 crores [250 million dollars],” explained Akhtar.

As the service shrank, so did the staff. Once numbering more than 12,000 employees, there are now less than 1000. Most of them are men in their fifties, who have spent their entire working lives sending out countless missives of good and bad tidings. But the era of dispatching urgent news is over. During a recent visit to a once-buzzing telegraph office in New Delhi, time appears to hang still. A handful of people sit before computers typing out messages mostly sent by people who want an official record of a communication for legal or other purposes. One is from a city resident to the police commissioner complaining that a police station has failed to record his complaint.  Others come from lawyers, families of soldiers or government officials.

Subhash Chandra, 54, is dreading the day the last telegram will be dispatched, and he will be sent to another office. When he joined, messages were sent by Morse code. That was replaced by the teleprinter. Later they were transmitted by computer. Until the 1980’s, Chandra dispatched hundreds of messages every day. Chandra said leaving the telegram office will be like leaving his home. He said it will be difficult to adjust in another place after working here for 33 years. He will have to work with new people on a new assignment. Like the telegram, he said, he would prefer to simply retire.

But others like general manager Akhtar are preparing to keep pace with the times and the evolution of communication methods.  Having watched the rapid advances in technology over the last decade, Akhtar believes that anything is possible in the future. “Day by day communication is taking new shape. One scientist has predicted that in the years to come, every man will have an antenna on his head and each newborn will be given a telephone number, and new exchanges will be set up in space,” Akhtar said.  For now, Akhtar said state-owned BSNL has more modest ambitions to expand the mobile phone network and broadband internet services to every corner of India.

Every fall, Hindus around the world light lamps, candles, and firecrackers as part of a five-day festival known as Diwali. The celebration, which has roots as a harvest festival, usually falls between mid-October and mid-November. In 2012, it began on November 11.

View of India During Night , Photo Released by NASA

On November 12, 2012, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite captured this nighttime view of southern Asia. The image is based on data collected by the VIIRS “day-night band,” which detects light in a range of wavelengths from green to near-infrared. The image has been brightened to make the city lights easier to distinguish.
Most of the bright areas are cities and towns in India, the country with the world’s largest Hindu population. India is home to more than 1.2 billion people and has 30 cities with populations over 1 million. (For comparison, China has 62 cities with more than 1 million residents and the United States has 9). Cities in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan are also visible near the edges of the image.
An image that claims to show the region lit for Diwali has been circulating on social media websites and the Internet in recent years. In fact, it does not show what it claims. That image, based on data from the Operational Linescan System flown on U.S. Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites, is a color-composite created in 2003 by NOAA scientist Chris Elvidge to highlight population growth over time. In that image, white areas show city lights that were visible prior to 1992, while blue, green, and red shades indicate city lights that became visible in 1992, 1998, and 2003 respectively.
In reality, any extra light produced during Diwali is so subtle that it is likely imperceptible when observed from space.

Shweta Katti , Girl born in Mumbai red light area to study in US

Shweta will be the first woman from Kamathipura who has overcome a lifetime of adversity to realize the dream of studying abroad. Shweta's success will be an inspiration for literally millions of young women. Directly confronting the social stigma associated with India's exploitative sex-work industry, Shweta is living proof that no person's worth and potential need be limited by their gender, caste, complexion, parents' occupation, or where they come from. Newsweek Magazine named Shweta one of "25 Under-25 Young Women To Watch:"  Shweta Katti, fought social stigma of growing up in a red light district in Mumbai. She has also managed to become the first person from her neighbourhood to get a US scholarship. But her journey wasn't easy. "I had a low self esteem because I am a dark skinned girl. In India, people say dark people are ugly and all. In school, my friends used to call me cow dung, black bamboo. I started hating myself, I thought that I was bad and I am not good," Shweta said.

Shweta has been accepted to Bard College in Annandale, N.Y., with a full tuition scholarship worth $46,000. Shweta still has unmet financial requirement for her additional expenses, including travel, accomodation, books, student fees and health insurance, an amount totalling $18,000 a year. The American Alumni Association, Kranti, Ketto and a group of Shweta's well wishers are initiating a campaign to raise a support network for her.

Soundarya occupies a prominent place in the telugu film industry. With her glamour and hard working. She had also has the potential to increase the market with her performance and the characters she portrays in her films. Her career graph has a steady rise since her debut with an upcoming hero like Harish, she has also acted with top heroes like Chiranjeevi, Amitabh and Rajnikanth. She is also the actress to get the most number of awards in the telugu industry.‘Soundarya’s mother tongue is Kannada. Her father Satyanarayana who was in Kannada film industry introduced her to telugu films. She changed her name from Saumya to Soundarya. Her debut film ‘Rythu Bharatam’ is produced by Maharathi but ‘Manamaralu Pelli’ was released first and is considered her debut movie. She exposed in the film, danced in rain, did kissing scene but later she stood firm on her decision of not exposing. She kept her word and through her performance she carved a niche for herself, and the market for her films too expanded. She earned a name for herself when Amani retired from films.Except for the row about giving single date to two producers which went to the producers council she has a quite good name for herself. She has done both glamorous roles as well as performance oriented roles doing more of the latter category inspite of being a Kannadiga she has given brilliant performances in telugu films. She mixed well with the telugu people and made place in their hearts. Her movies ‘Pavitra Bandham’, ‘Ammoru’, ‘Pelli Chesukundam’, ‘Sriramulayya’, and a stunning performance in ‘Raja’ earned her lots of fame and appreciation. As her film ‘Arundathi’ flopped which was a woman oriented film it seemed that it is mandatory to have a hero in a film. Krantikumar of ‘Arundathi’ fame presently doing ‘ 9 Neralu’ with her which might be a hit, besides giving Soundarya a reason to smile.

She is the only heroine who acted with all superstars of South Indian cinema but died in a most unfortunate plane crash near Jakkur aerodrome. She was flying to Karim Nagar (Andrapradesh) for BJP candidate Vidya Sagar Rao's election campaign. Soundrya's brother Amarnath and BJP youth leader Ramesh were there in the ill-fated Cessna that caught fire soon after its takeoff at 11.15 a.m. and crash-landed into GKVK campus. Plane busted off after a few minutes of the crash,  All three plus the pilot Joy Philip were charred completely on the spot to an extent of unrecognizable condition . Couple of people nearby rushed to the burning aircraft to rescue the trapped victims but the plane busted off injuring even them and they are being treated in the hospital. This mini plane Cessna belonging to Agni Aviation was of 1955 model and received safety certificate till June 2004 . And Joy was not a seasoned pilot. He had 380 hours of flying experience where it requires at least 240 hrs of flying experience to get a commercial license. Private planes play a major role during elections and its very important to make sure about its working condition as VVIPs fly in these.

Soundarya, daughter of senior film writer, industrialist K.S. Satyanarayan was born and brought up in Bangalore. She entered the glamour world through film Gandarva. She was the only heroine who acted with all super stars of South India namely Ravichandran, Vishnuvardhan, Rajanikanth, Chiranjeevi, Kamal Hasan, Mummutti, Mohan Lal and whats more, even with Amitabh Bachchan (Suryavamsh). Though hailed from Bangalore, she throb the hearts of many through Telugu films. She got many awards and accolades for her performance. Karnataka State Award in 1998-99 (Doni Saagali) Nandi Award given by Andra Pradesh Government (Pavitra Bandhanam and Ananthapuram). Not just as an actress but was also a producer Soundrya's film Dweepa directed by Girish Kasaravalli bagged the Swarna Kamal award. Naanu Nanna Hendteeru, Sipayi, Aryabhata, Nagadevate and Dweepa are some of her Kannada films. Her new film Shwetanaga is due for release and shooting her latest film Apta Mitra of Dwarakish production was completed a few days back informed Giri Dwarakish while talking to us today. Legendary Lyricist vaali died

Popular Lyricist Vaali passed away today evening in the Apollo Hospital , Chennai

Vaali Sir was under critical condition and was given the best treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. but  he couldn't survive the deteriorating health and gave up his soul. The lyric writer holds important place for his works for several generations including Maryan (Netru Aval Irundhaal and Sonpareeya) and has even penned a song for Vasantha Balan's upcoming film Theru Koothu that has AR Rahman's music.

His Original Name is T. S. Rangarajan . Vaali has not only written lyrics in pure Tamil, but all sorts of folk, hip-hop, rhythm and blues as well. He has also mixed other languages in Tamil songs. The legend goes that Vaali at one time in his life was contemplating suicide due to immense poverty when he heard the lines of the song "Mayakkama Kalakkamma" from the movie SumaiThangi, penned by Kannadasan. The lines "Unakkum keezhey(கீழே)ullavar kodi ninaithu paarthu nimmadhi naadu..." changed his mindset and renewed his vigour to live a new life. Thus was born the great poet we know today. He has quoted that there were 24 hours with him but no food to eat and next came a time when he had enough on the plate but no time to eat.

Actor Kamal Haasan had asked Vaali to pen the lyrics for a love song for the film Apoorva Sakotharargal. Kamal asked him specifically to pen a love failure song. Vaali penned the lyrics and gave them to him. But Kamal wasn't satisfied as he felt the depth of emotion conveyed through the lyrics failed to match the intensity of the situation in the film. And so Vaali reworked his lyrics, until finally at his sixth attempt he wrote the lyrics and angrily flung his writing pad and said, "Ithukku mela ennala ezhutha mudiyathu" (I cannot write better than this). This song, "Unnai nenachaen paatu paaduchaen Thangamae gnanathangamae...", subsequently went on to win the National Award.

May his soul rest in peace !!!
